Other error reasons:

You merge multiple sheets from XLSX (Excel 2007-2013) into one XLS (Excel 97-2003) causes the error.

The maximum number of rows Excel 2007-2013:1048576

The maximum number of rows Excel 97-2003:65536 

Because: 97-2003 format Excel files contains fewer row and columns than 2007-2013 file format Excel files.

Solutions: You can convert XLS to XLSX, then merge excel files.

 

Solutions:

You should  close other excel files (Save the excel files has been modified) before you begin to merge excel files.
